The New Zealand sea lion Threat Management Plan (TMP) was sought by the Minister of Conservation and the Minister for Primary Industries in 2014 in response to an ongoing trend of decline in sea lion pup numbers at the Auckland Islands. You can find out more about the process here.
The consultation period on the draft TMP has recently closed, and the Department of Conservation and Ministry for Primary Industries have received over 4,900 submissions, including one from Deepwater Group (click here to read our submission).
Deepwater Group are supportive of the draft TMP, and will continue to work with DOC and others on the conservation of the New Zealand sea lion.
These submissions are currently being processed and feedback received will help decision-making on the final plan.
